Spellbinders – Say Cheese

The Spellbinders Say Cheese Large Die of the Month from April 2022 was the cutest camera die I have seen, I finally had some time to play with in and see if I could make a couple cards with the visions I had in my head.

From the Spellbinders Blog, you can see some inspiration of cards made by the Spellbinders team, but I went searching for a real camera example.

My grandmother was a camera buff and had several antique cameras. I remember she took lots of pictures of the family and the outdoors.

This die seems to be modeled after a Kodak Brownie model camera. This one pictured is actually a toy model rather than the real thing but it is so close.

The flash isn’t directly above but I think I may try to build the flash attachment someday.

This is the first attempt at recreating a look similar to the original.

I used dark brown and vanilla cream papers for the body and matt silver for the strap holders and view finder.

I also covered the lens with a clear plastic (from the packaging) to give it a glass look. I used a dark brown ribbon for the strap instead of the dies provided.

It is hard to see the knobs on the top, but they are tan, matching the original.

I mounted the camera on some heritage paper from my stash and label with the sentiment. I cut the “SMILE” from the die that comes with the set.

Next, I wanted to get creative and was inspired by the patterned paper used by Zsoka Marko, A pocket full of scrap: April 2022.

I used some antique tropical paper by Authentique called Utopia.

I mounted the finished camera and flash on some white coastal wood paper and neutral grey cardstock from my stash. Rather than the flowers that comes with the die set, I used dies from the Happy Hour collection, Tropical Flair.
